SalSeoul Sampler #2

fog-79455_1280.jpg

Another month has passed by so quickly, it's time for presents: so here comes another Salseoul Compilation...

This second volume is a bit brighter than the first one, although it starts quite calm again with a track from the famous album 'El Tren Fantasma' by Chris Watson and the instrumental version of Wareika's '2nd Floor' from their highly recommended 'Floors EP'.
'Can't Be Beat' by Quiet Village is a deep and groovy Nu Disco pearl that's perfect to start a DJ set with. I love those strings and their promise for more. Francis Lai's 'The Call of Nature' is another great opener, but you might not kick off with it in a techno club though.
Earlier this month we already had a post on Ben Mays' 'Jail Bait' from the fantastic Chicago House sampler 'Kill Yourself Dancing'. I'm sure many of you already know 'Electric Baile', but make sure to check out the large dub version as well. It's more than 16 minutes long and was new to me. Another dance classic we covered here before is Eugene Tambourine's edit of 'It's Over Now'. I can't stress enough how great all his reworks are. Go check out Eugene's soundcloud page. Next one is Todd Terje's Mix of Lindstrøm's 'Faar-I-Kaal'. Nothing needs to be said about this. Terje did it again....

Do you think house with classical music is a bit cheap and cheesy? Especially with choirs? Well, me too but as I'm a little cheap and cheesy myself I really love Ferdinand Dreyssig & Marvin Hey's 'Coeur de la Nuit'. Guess it was a huge hit this year in Kater Holzig. 'Azurian Sunset' by Legowelt is already a House classic, even though it was also released only this year. It's always great to hear modern productions that sound so solid. Did I mentioned before how much I hate digging through shitloads of software-only made crap just to find some very few beauties? Speaking of which, on Traum Schallplatten releases you'll likely find some of the latter, if you'd be looking for this. 'Callings' by Roi Koch for sure is one and if you like this you'd check out other releases on this Cologne based label.

One of my albums of the year is 'Plaited' by Karocel. There's not that one outstanding hit on it because every single track is quality stuff to listen to at home and to play out. I've chosen 'Boyz', any other would've been fine as well. Same is true for 'Mst', my favourite album of last year. '(La Voz) Tan Tierna' by Acid Pauli is a slow electronic Cumbia with lots of samples. And love. Pauli's sounds are a huge inspiration for me and his DJ sets are legendary. He also plays Amadou et Mariam, a famous blind couple from Mali. 'Mbife Balafon' is only one of their many hits.
We already featured a song by Uku Kuut, son of the jazz singer Marju Kuut, on the first Salseoul sampler. He was born in Russia, raised in Sweden and Carlifornia and he lives in Estonia today. 'Mayday' is another fine electro-funk song from the album 'Visions of Estonia' on the lovely label Peoples Potential Unlimited. ***EDIT*** Uku made many of his songs downloadable for free on his soundcloud page. This week only so be quick!

No need to say a lot about 'Slippery People' and 'How Much, How Much I Love You', both are classic disco tunes. You might know the latter one from my latest mix 'Come Into My Garden' and I've recently been asked about it. I put his 16 minutes Costandinos production on the sampler. The perfectly ripped and mastered original comes from my favorite blog, Disco Connection. If you like disco it's pure gold. They've already restored hundreds of great gems for nothing but the love of music. If you shouldn't know them already you'd definitely head to DC2012 RIGHT NOW, get this stuff and leave some comments for their amazing work. They're the real deal!

After this blast you may wanna take a little rest with the sweet opener of the new DMX Krew album, 'Hammock Yard', and 'Comme au Cinéma' by Alain Delon which can also be found on one 'Fragments of Freedom', an awesome mix by Theo Lawrence. It's been made in 2012 for the Another Night on Earth blog which has been suspiciously silent lately. Hope they'll be back fresh in 2014. You'll find another of Theo's mixes on his soundcloud page and maybe soon on Salseoul....

Hope you like it!
