Bells

When it comes to the annual charts of 2013 one of the albums that seem to be a little underrated is Pantha du Prince & The Bell Laboratory's 'Elements of Lights'. I see that it got released a while back and bells are assumably not among the most beloved instruments of listeners of Dance music after all but not even German magazines mention it (even though some of them tend to put "some fancy experimental stuff" on their list when it isn't really necessary).
Not that I really care about those kinda things but...'Elements of Lights' truly is a masterpiece, every single song on this album is just great. In this zip you'll find the probably most recognized one ('Particle') alongside Ozo's Disco monster 'Anambra' and - just to express our uneasiness with the decision of this year's annual chart judges once more - 'The Revenge of the Giant Cowbell' from Efdemin's fantastic album 'Chicago'.
Happy new year!

Moondog

I love this man! In this zip you'll find a little (Un)Mix of the album 'Viking Sixth Avenue' on Honest Jon's that I made a while back along with 3 other songs that are not on the mix: 'Sparrow', 'Nero's Expedition' and a pitched down version of the 'Bird's Lament'.

Sam Green - For The Ocean

I love this song by the Australian singer and writer Sam Green! Sound quality is shite which makes it even more beautiful and charming if you ask me. On his soundcloud page you will find a few other downloadable songs and also a link to his website where you can watch videos and order albums, T-Shirts and Poetry.

I found 'For the Ocean' on the mind-blowing Aussie-Kiwi-only-mixtape 'Southern Shores' by Instant Peterson and Andras Fox. It was made for one of my favorite blogs The Growing Bean and contains many sweet and hard to find gems.

'Hey, can you come out and play' by Megan Sue Hicks is another one that I unfortunately wasn't able to find any audio or video files of on the web. If anyone out there has a copy and is willing to share PLEASE get in touch.

Chicago House - Kill Yourself Dancing

I love Chicago House and it's early history is discovered quite enough. Some compilations became classics and (even though all tracks are well known) are highly sought after themselves until today.

The new, lovely-titled sampler 'Kill Yourself Dancing' (compiled by Jerome Derradji for Still Music) ‎queues up with them. But alongside productions of underground hit machines like Ralphi Rosari, Master Plan or Matt Warren you'll also find rather unknown tracks that are not provided everywhere else. I like almost every single one of them and I strongly recommend to buy the album.
Two highlights are the large dub of Master Plan's 'Electric Baile' and 'Jail Bait' by Ben Mays. This 10-minute b-side of 'Lover Man' matches perfectly no matter if you're playing a warm up for a Deep House set, try to gather people on the floor, want to go deeper and get closer to your crowd in a packed club, or just need a toilet break - it will surely work. You then could go on in many different directions. Or simply dance you ass off at home...

OB Ignitt - Mysterious

Great release by the House sensation OB Ignitt on Detroit’s finest FXHE label by Omar S. All three tracks on this EP are killer. Expect many references to dance classics that nonetheless sound fresh as fresh can be.

No audio files yet cause it just got released and can be purchased everywhere.
But watch out for the upcoming SalSeoul samplers... ;)

Panama! on Soundway

Quickly two of my favorite songs on the amazing Panama! sampler series on Soundway. All three compilations are great but I personally prefer the latter two volumes. '20 de Enero in Ocu' by Yin Carrizo might be a bit obscure for those of you who don't like the accordion.

'Mi Bella Panama' by Los Revolucionarios (Soul Revolution) is a bit more catchy. Really makes me wanna pack my bags.

Hope you dig!

Commercial Breakup - All I Love Is Green (Steve Bug Remix)

I got my first turntables when I was 16 or 17 and this must be one of my first records ever. Today I realized that some bands and projects that formed at that time still are big in business but sound much cleaner (and somewhat colder) nowadays. Are just memories keeping this song warm and fresh to me until now?

(The song starts after a minute. They obviously used a crappy mixtape. Mp3 comes without noise.)

Eugene Tambourine's Edits

Bad edits are one of the most frustrating aspects when it comes to virtual digging. For me those of originally good songs that just add a gawky beat for the 'sake' of better danceability are particularly annoying. Eugene Tambourine's wonderful reworks really cut that crap.

I was lucky enough to hear a short DJ set and have a little chat with him a while ago in Berlin and he's a remarkably charming, open minded guy.
Moreover, the selection of songs he touches is outstanding and then they sound quite 'natural' while at the same time coming to the gist of the matter. Check his version of Ultra Naté's 'It's over now' for instance. Didn't really like that song before but he just turned it into a true dance floor pearl!

You can listen and download many great edits on Eugene's soundcloud page and his DJ mixes are worth a listen, too. Hope you dig!

SalSeoul Sampler #1

Copenhagen-Dreams

It's getting darker, temperatures are falling in Korea - and the first compilation here on SalSeoul reflects that. All the songs are very special to me, however, and I hope you'll also warm up to them.

안녕하세요 여러분~~~

nami

I must admit that I'm not really into Korean Disco and Funk yet. You could find some nice obscure Low-Fi songs and videos but they rarely really touched my 마음. Probably I gotta dig a bit deeper.

However, there is one song by the famous singer Nami that I fell in love with on the spot: 나미 - 인디언 인형처럼.

Check out the extended version, too. Wish there was a real instrumental as well. Anyway, food for an edit?

Here a live performance with the gorgeous 김완선

Nami's biggest hit was 빙글빙글 which is also known by many young people nowadays from a great movie scene in 'Sunny' (2011)
